KDP print cover preflight

Purpose

Build a print wrap from the live KDP setup's numbers, never from memory, so the cover clears KDP's previewer on the first upload.

Workflow

  1. Open the live KDP paperback setup for the title and read the four preflight values: trim size, paper type (white or cream), KDP's computed page count, and the expected cover dimensions from the cover template or previewer. Do not use the EPUB's page count or a remembered trim.
  2. Confirm the print interior's trim matches the KDP setup trim before building the cover. If they differ, fix the interior first.
  3. Confirm the series-numbering text on the cover against the settled series order before exporting.
  4. Build the wrap to the exact expected dimensions , resize to the previewer's numbers, not approximately. Export as JPG (KDP has rejected PNG covers). Keep true black in black areas.
  5. Use a new filename for every re-upload; KDP caches conversions against the old filename.
  6. Run the finished file through KDP's previewer and resolve every dimension warning before reporting done. Report the four preflight values with the result.

Output Contract

The exported wrap file plus the four preflight values read from the live setup (trim, paper, computed page count, expected dimensions), with KDP's previewer showing no warnings.

Operating Rules

  1. Never build a print cover from an assumed or remembered trim, paper, or page count , the live KDP setup is the only source.
  2. When the user says a defect is not caching, rebuild from source instead of re-explaining cache behavior.
